Securing Help in Economic and Life Development (SHIELD Inc.) was founded with a mission committed to the empowerment of the community by providing programs, policies, and multi-ethnic partnerships that focused our resources to eliminate the root causes of poverty in our area.  This would best be accomplished by empowering the community and providing programs with a focus on securing and providing economic and positive life development for a population that is ethnically, educationally and economically diverse. 

Over the years SHIELD Inc has also partnered with a local community church on Martin Luther King Day Jr weekend to help provide soup and blankets to the community as well as much needed supplies to a local Domestic Violence Shelter. SHIELD Inc has also held community wide health seminars and provided educational classes to high school seniors to enhance success and improve their ability to find gainful employment.

In 2014 SHIELD recommitted itself to the community by refining our mission. The focus is to include empowering individuals and families by providing life development programs and resources. In 2017 we added SHIELD for Science and Engineering. This program helped send fifth graders to Griffith Park Observatory School Program and science based programs. Future plans are being developed  to extend this to a Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) event for older students.
